Mashpee in Words and Pictures, a new book on the history of our town by Rosemary Burns Love, is an expansion of the author’s 125th Anniversary Pictorial History of Mashpee 1870-1995, published in 1995. Ms. Love is a long-time member of the Mashpee Historical Commission. Her proposal to expand the earlier book was approved by the Community Preservation Committee in 2013 and plans to collect new pictures and write new text began immediately. (The project is described in the report of the Mashpee Historical Commission, which appears in the Town of Mashpee 2014 Annual Report.) Southport residents who are interested in Mashpee history will find this book to be a very useful reference. It contains much information about New Seabury and some about Southport. Southporter Frank Lord is mentioned and pictured.
The book is available at the Public Library, the Town Hall and other locations for $26.50 including tax. Receipts from sales go directly into the Historical Commission Revolving Account to support commission activities.
