Southport Osprey

ospreyAn osprey was sighted on
April 3, flying above both Woods Edge Lane and Bonwood Drive. The following day he hovered over the small pond bordered by these streets, then dove down, caught a fish in his talons and flew away to eat it. Now that the osprey has discovered this location, it has since been back several times to catch fish from the pond; he was sighted twice on April 6 and was successful in catching his prey on both occasions. Karlyn Curran, Joan Bailey and Billie and David Kapp are keeping an eye out for this bird and now operate an “osprey alert” telephone service whenever he is sighted.
